“Right now, we have a total of 76 students on scholarships. We definitely wouldn’t exist and the students wouldn’t have the opportunities that they have without the program and funding from the George Kaiser Family Foundation,” said Jill Davis, Bridging the Gap program director.
The goal of TCC’s program with the support of GKFF is to train more quality teachers in early childhood education for infants and toddlers.
Once accepted into TCC’s Bridging the Gap program, students can complete two certificate tracks or get their associate degree in child development and transition to a four-year university through a partnership with the University of Oklahoma.
Davis said the GKFF donation helps students with tuition, fees and books and helps fund three staff positions including a child development mentor that act as a support network for the students.
She added she’s personally grateful for Bridging the Gap and what it means, “I came from a teaching background and this was one way for me to help better the field of early childhood development.”
