Health information management professionals serve as a vital link between health care providers, payers, and patients. Often, their roles bridge the gap and provide the connection between the clinical, operational, and administrative aspects of health care. A career in this field allows an individual to work in health care settings, but requires no direct hands-on patient care. Training in health information management provides the body of knowledge and necessary practice skills to ensure the availability of health information to facilitate health care delivery, critical health-related decision making, quality care, and reimbursement while maintaining data integrity standards, confidentiality, and data security.
