The Medical Assistant Program is designed to prepare individuals with the administrative (front office) and clinical (back office) skills required for personnel employed in physicians' offices, clinics and other health care settings.
The Medical Assistant Program at Tulsa Community College has been accredited since 1979 by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), upon the recommendation of the Medical Assistant Education Review Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants' Endowment (MAERB-AAMAE). The graduates of this program receive a Certificate of Achievement and are eligible to apply to take the American Association of Medical Assistants Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Examination.
The Medical Assistant Program admits a new class each year beginning in August. The number of students admitted to the class is limited to 24 students. The Medical Assistant Program courses are offered 50 percent online, in the day time only, and will take a total of three semesters to complete. Prerequisite courses may take an additional semester to complete.
All students enrolled in Allied Health courses at Tulsa Community College that include a clinical component are required to complete a random drug screening test and a criminal background check, including sex offender registry check.
The Medical Assistant Program will produce entry-level medical assistants who possess the knowledge and skills to perform safe and ethical patient care to their communities of interest. The knowledge and skills obtained by which will serve as the foundation for further development of technical expertise and understanding of the overall health context in which our medical assistant graduates perform.
