Beginning courses in Chinese are offered every fall, spring, and summer semesters. Chinese, the most widely spoken language in the world, is one of the official languages used by the United Nations. Besides mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, Chinese is one of the major languages spoken in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Since implementing an open-door policy and economic reform, Chinese foreign trade has been growing rapidly. With the increase of American interaction with China in business, many employers have come to recognize the need for personnel with Chinese language and cultural skills. Chinese courses at Tulsa Community College will enable the student to get a broad understanding of Chinese history and culture, attend courses that emphasize understanding, speaking, reading and writing Chinese, and focus on the cultural aspects of the Chinese people.
